The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has announced the postponement of Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) transition examination. This was slated for June/July 2024 and it has been pushed to a later date.
It should be noted that, the Ministry of Education and Sports had announced that there was a chance to be given to all Senior Four repeaters. Where they would be given a transition examination to be enabled to phase out this old curriculum and give space to the new curriculum to take over.
That is how this UCE transition examination came into the picture, and it was slated for mid this year in June and July 2024. And the postponement to October/November 2024 is explained by UNEB as, a way to give repeaters a chance to prepare well for the examination and ease financial burdens particularly for the Universal Secondary Education students.
“The Minister recorgnizes that learners who had previously registered and sat under the Universal Secondary Education (USE) schools may not have the resources to pay for the examination and as such, the government should take up the responsibility” part of the circular sent to all DEOs and Area Supervisors reads.

Additionally, all USE repeating learners have been advised that they should not mind, they should register again from any USE schools near them or where they had previously registered from to be able to qualify to do this transition examination.
“Such repeaters should therefore register from USE schools close to them or where they studied from previously. The functional/existing examination halls will also register candidates as well as the private schools that will have repeaters wishing to sit for the examination” the circular adds.
For the repeaters, you have been given time to prepare and face the examination so that you pass and go to the next levels.
