Naksaseke District LCV Ignatius Kiwanuka Koomu made teachers to sit PLE exams

Social media users and locals have been left baffled after the LCV chairperson of Nakaseke District, Mr Ignatius Koomu Kiwanuka forced P.7 teachers to sit for the Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE). This resulted from the poor performance of pupils in the 2023 PLE Exams across Nakaseke.

Mr Koomu had some time ago threatened these teachers to make them do these exams. This was as a result of the poor performance of learners in the national exams at the primary level that have been getting released. Indeed, he didn’t disappoint as the trend continued in the exams.

We then saw the LCV chairperson subject about 40 teachers to doing these exams after they failed to enhance pupils’ performance in the exams. These teachers were summoned to Nakaseke Technical Institute where they sat for the papers. Each teacher did a paper according to the subject they teach.

Additionally, those who fail to get 60% which is the pass mark will be required to go for further studies. This is because they can’t teach what they don’t know. And Mr Ignatius Koomu Kiwanuka believes this is the solution to poor performance in the district.

“Teachers Sit for PLE in Nakaseke district, the LCV Chairperson, Ignatius Koomu Kiwanuka, has subjected primary seven teachers to assessment tests following a poor performance in the 2023 PLE results” a source revealed to this website.

It is further known that, over the last six years, Mr Ignatius Koomu Kiwanuka has consistently warned teachers to enhance academic performance or face consequences. That is why about 40 teachers, identified through the recently released PLE results for 2023, are currently undergoing assessment at Nakaseke Technical Institute.

Those who fail to achieve the required 60% pass mark must undergo a refresher course. Although, some people weren’t amused by this move. They suggested that this was only to embarrass teachers because a learner’s academic excellence is a combination of many things such as environment, and guardians among other things.

“You Can’t Teach What You Dont Know”. Komu says he is after finding solutions to the poor performance of learners in the district,” reported our Zivuga Cop. However, others supported the idea saying that most teachers are half-baked. They don’t understand what they teach hence qualifying learners just for the sake.

Meanwhile, the Uganda National Teacher’s Union (UNATU) is demanding for an apology from Nakaseke district chairperson for making the area teachers be subjected to Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE).

The UNATU General Secretary, Filbert Bates Baguma, maintained that, teachers should be supported with the right tools and resources to deliver the quality of education than making them sit for exams.

“We therefore, demand for public apology from the LC V chairperson for dishonoring the noble teaching profession of which he is a product. Failure to do so, UNATU plans to mobilize all teachers in Nakaseke to withdraw their labour” Filbert Bates Baguma said.
