Police officer kills himself after losing Ugx 800,000 in sports betting

Shock befell Namanva Police barracks occupants after one police officer took his own life and it was known days after his body had decomposed. Police Constable known as Shadiq Hussein Baguma is the one that ended his life after losing Shillings 800,000  in sports betting.

It is being established that, the money was placed under his care by a with fear that he could be attacked and the money taken as it was late and he had to travel somewhere.

This tempted Shadiq Hussein Baguma to do chap chap and make a profit quickly out of it so that when the owner of the money came in the morning, he would have got some profit from sports betting.

Bad luck befell him and he lost his bet and all the money he had been entrusted with was already gone. This prompted him to start looking for money in his relatives and friends, but all was in vain.

“Please I need your help. I must replace this man’s money because it will cause me problems. Kindly help me. If you don’t help me out, you never see me again,” read the texts Shadiq Hussein Baguma sent out to his relatives on March 4th, 2024.

According to police detectives, Shadiq Hussein Baguma waited for late night hours and he entered his room in the Namanve police barracks and that was it.

How did people know he had died?

Well, after around Five days, Baguma’s neighbours in the barracks noticed a strange smell coming from his house. Police officers broke the door, and they found him hanging and dead.

We suspect that our police officer took own life according to information that has been provided by the relatives and his colleagues. He tried to get money from many people but he did not succeed. We have conveyed his body to Mulago hospital and investigations continued,” Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed the unfortunate incident.
