Democratic Party president and Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Norbert Mao was in a secret Kukyala (Introduction) at Beatrice’s parents. This happened over the weekend on 25th February 2024 (Sunday) in Najjanakumbi on Entebbe road and it was very glamourous.
This secret Norbert Mao and Beatrice Kayanja introduction saw big names like the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Tayebwa Thomas who was the best man and his wife Anita the matron, Mbarara North MP, Robert Rukaari and many others be part.
However, Mao denies this by saying that it was not a kukyaala, citing that he just visited Beatrice’s parents and the rest will follow. He continued to chirp that, he is an African man who wants to follow the order of making things official.
“This was just a visit to the parents, the introduction will come later, our tradition is like that, we are Africans” Norbert Mao quipped. It should however be known that, Beatrice Kayanja was Mao’s research assistant for more than 5 years and the two were rumored to be bedding each other before they started dating officially.
Point to note is that, Beatrice was married to Martin Kayanja for 25 years and the two were staying in the UK with their children until she decided to come back to Uganda and start working with Mao.
This move was never healthy to their marriage as it hit rocks until Beatrice filed a divorce petition case vide HCT-00-FD-DC-0021-2021 at the Family Court in Makindye in February 2021 and the case was assigned to Lady Justice Ketra Katunguka Kitarisibwa.
Her reason was that, Kayanja was a quarrelsome man and very abusive she couldn’t stand him for more years. This was catalysed by the video Mr. Kayanja made that went viral on social media asking Mao to leave his wife and give her space.

After the judgement was made in her favor, she decided to settle in fully with Norbert Mao. That is why we saw in December 2023, Beatrice posted her photo with Mao and informed the public how their relationship was harder than the Rwenzori rocks.
Beatrice is an IT engineer who acquired her education from the University of Westminster in the United Kingdom. She planned to contest for the Kampala Lord Mayor seat in the 2021 general elections and the Electoral Commission stopped her after she failed to prove her citizenship.
