Kato Lubwama’s Family Sues Lil Pazzo for Copyright Infringement

Lil Pazzo sued over copyright infringement with his song Irena Wee

The family of the late Kato Lubwama has sued singer Mukasa Yasin alias Lil Pazzo for copyright infringement. It should be noted that the singer has been riding on his Enkudi hit song. Through it, he started hitting and flirting with songstress Irene Ntale on social media.

In a bold move to please her, the singer released a song titled ‘Irene…Wee.’ However, this was plagiarized from Kato Lubwama’s Kilabe Ebiiso song. As soon as this song was released, the family hastened to serve the singer through their lawyers.

Lil Pazzo has now been told to retract the song from all media stations as soon as possible. He was also told to offer a public apology which he should make via all the media avenues that are playing this plagiarized song.

Additionally, the comical singer was also told to pay 300m shillings to the family of the late. He also has to pay a separate 20m shillings for the costs incurred so far I this case. Furthermore Lil Pazzo was told to follow the instructions in this notice in 14 days from its issuance. If he doesn’t, they will be prompted to follow further legal procedures.

We represent the family of the late Kato Lubwama Paul on whose instructions we wish to address you as hereunder. The late Kato Paul Lubwama was the original composer of the song titled “Kilabe Ebiiso” and the same is copyrighted under his name.

Our clients have since learnt of your infringement against the aforesaid copyright, through your recently released song titled ‘IRENA WEeee….”, which is common place on the different media platforms and air waves both in and outside Uganda.

The lyrics, rhythm and beat used in your song are a direct replica of the late Paul Kato Lubwama’s original composition “Kilabe Ebiiso” and they do not only amount to Plagiarism but are actionable at law.

 Our instruction herein is to demand that you:-

  1. a) Immediately take down the infringing song off all media platforms.
  2. b) Offer a formal apology for the aforesaid infringement and publicize the same on all media platforms where your infringing song is being played. c) Pay damages to our client of Ugx.300,000,000(Uganda Shillings Three Hundred million)
  3. d) Pay our costs thus far incurred, totaling to Ugx.20,000,000(Uganda Shillings Twenty million)

The aforesaid demands must be adhered to within only 14 days from the date of this letter, failing which we are under stern instructions to institute legal proceedings against you at your own peril, inconvenience and costs, without further notice to you.

Lil Pazzo has not made official comments about this, but of course he will as he has an upcoming Enkudi Festival in August 2024.
