Foot and Mouth disease quarantine in Ntungamo

There are accusations of foul play in Ntungamo district, Uganda, where a Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) quarantine remains in place despite reports that the disease has been contained.

The Ugandan Parliament is buzzing over a potential scandal brewing in Ntugamo District. The issue? A seemingly never-ending Foot and Mouth Disease quarantine. While the government claims the district hasn’t officially confirmed its readiness for the quarantine to be lifted, some Members of Parliament (MPs) are crying foul.

They allege that certain officials might be benefiting from the prolonged closure of cattle markets. That’s right, folks whispers of corruption are in the air! MP Naome Kabasharira, representing Rushenyi County, didn’t keep quiet at it during a recent plenary session, questioning why farmers weren’t allowed to sell their vaccinated animals.

Is this a genuine oversight or something more sinister? Agriculture Minister Frank Tumwebaze insists that the ball is in Ntugamo’s court, stating that they need to officially declare themselves FMD free. However, Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja isn’t taking any chances.

She has tasked Hon. Frank Tumwebaze with getting to the bottom of this, demanding an investigation into the delay. Looks like someone’s got some explaining to do or else a rat is in the corner smelling as the top official in Ntungamo start to bit their nails.
