Authorities in Ibanda district have instructed tough measures against a local religion in the district known as Nyanga Akaibo. A letter obtained by this website towards the census enumerators ordered for an iron hand against the practitioners off this religion.

It should be noted that this religion’s teachings does not believe in several government/earthly programs such as immunization among others. The 2024 Census is another government program that they are rumored to be planning to boycott.

However, the RDC of Ibanda District Tukaikiriza Caleb is prepared to make sure that these don’t go missing on the D-day. He has therefore instructed all enumerators and parish supervisors to make sure that they identify these people.

Furthermore the RDC instructed the area LC1 chairpersons to work hand in hand with the census operators to identify these households that believe in the Nyanga Akaibo. And when this is done, these should be enumerated first.

The RDC also instructed these enumerators to report any case of resistance from these households to their respective supervisors. The DISO and DPC of Ibanda District have all been notified to act accordingly.

“Please note that the Office of the Resident District Commissioner RDC has been notified with concern that there is a religion in Ibanda District called NYANGAAKAIBO and this religion does not respect/believe in census activities. You are therefore requested to identify these households together with the chairperson LCl of that place and enumerate it first.” the letter starts.
