Minister of Finance Matia Kasaija has gone rogue with his boss H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the Cabinet after more demand for supplementary budgets keep piling up. He went bitter with those that demand for new budgets all the time and he said that it is time he stops this vice.
While addressing the media, Matia Kasaija alerted that, every time the Cabinet sits, there is always a new demand or demands of supplementary budgets, yet he allocates all ministries with enough resources for a specific financial year. He added that, he has now learnt to politely keep quiet on them and he does nothing about it.
In his rant, he also quipped that after these demands are made by the cabinet ministers, the president tasks him to get money by all means. This means more borrowing of which Matia Kasaija said, he will not mortgage the country Uganda because random ministers are asking for money just like that.
“Even when the president says find money for this, I say yes, but I don’t do anything about it because there is no money and I will not borrow indefinitely” He asserted in part, telling off the president on how he is tired of borrowing and the ever-skyrocketing public debt.

“Almost every Monday when Cabinet sits there are always new demands for supplementary budget. Now, I have learnt to politely keep quiet” Hon. Matia Kasaija chirped. It should be noted that, Uganda’s public debt hit Shs89 trillion in 2023 and this is almost twice the Shs52.7 trillion budget for the Financial Year 2023/2024.
