City business magnate and tycoon Haruna Ssentongo was arrested by State House Land officials on the 23rd of December 2023 and was later released, over accusations of grabbing land. This has been a long-standing case of him and one Shamim Awaali Namusisi.
The land in question is located in Munyonyo and the city businessman tried to use all his tactics of land grabbing to take it at a very small fee, of which Shamim Awaali Namusisi rejected and wanted the deal to hit a dead end, which was not the case for Haruna Ssentongo.
Shamim Awaali Namusisi is the female Youth Lord Councilor for KCCA and a wife to Masaka RCC Hussein Hudu. The story starts when Haruna Ssentongo approaches Shamim and showed interest in buying her land which is located in Munyonyo. That was last year when Shamim refused to sell, Haruna instead contacted Hudu Shamim’s husband to help sell.
The grabbing deal started in 2022, where the tycoon met Hudu and Shamim his wife at Fairway Hotel in Kampala. It is being known that, during that meeting, Shamim revealed that he would give him the plot of land at Ugx300m. This did not fall through as Haruna had only Ugx30m in cash.
Within a twist of events, it is further learned that Shamim rejected the available Ugx30m and walked away thus leaving Haruna and her husband Hudu in a secret talk. This Ugx30m is said to have been just a commitment fee, and in the end, Hudu Hussein left with it to his home and kept it without any written agreement.

It was after some months that Haruna called to meet Shamim and her husband, and he was delivering only Ugx100m but still, Shamim rejected it as she wanted the whole amount of Ugx300m at once. Consequently, Haruna Ssentongo got pissed off and Shamim called him in the morning of the next day to go collect his commitment fee of Ugx30m, this is when things changed.
Close sources to Shamim allege that, Haruna deliberately refused to pick the money and opted to use force, threats, to grab the plot of land which they refused to sell to him. And in November 2023, Haruna went and forcefully fenced off the land with the help of security forces.
This is when Hudu Hussein and his wife decided to file a case against Haruna and the State House lands officials came in and arrested the businessman. It is further known that he was discharged on the condition that he was not to put any development on the said land.
