Hon Nanyondo Veronica the Bukomansimbi Woman MP has distanced herself from a censure motion aimed at censuring the Parliamentary backbenchers. She said that she was tricked by the Leader of Opposition, Hon Joel Ssenyonyi.

It should be noted that Lwemiyaga County MP, Hon Theodore Ssekikubo recently presented a motion to censure four MPs namely:- Esther Afoyochan (Zombo DWR), Prossy Akampulira (Rubanda DWR), Solomon Silwany (Bukooli Central) and Mathias Mpuuga (Nyendo-Mukungwe).

Ssekikubo’s motion however lacked the required 177 signatures since most MPs were afraid to sign it until Joel Ssenyonyi stepped in to help. However, it seems the Opposition MPs notably NUP were hoodwinked into signing this motion.

Nanyondo said that she was told that her signature was only needed as an attendance signature. She therefore wrote to the Speaker to withdraw her signature from this scheme.

“I respectfully write to notify you of my intention to withdraw my signature from the motion seeking to censor four back bench commissioners of Parliament. Rt. Hon Speaker I was hoodwinked into appending my signature to what was disguised as an attendance list to a meeting called by the Leader of the Opposition in his Department’s Boardroom this morning.” she stated her frustration.

“To this end, I am writing to categorically withdraw my signature and disassociate myself from the said list as it was in bad faith and I was misled into signing,” Hon Nanyondo’s statement read.

However, Ssenyonyi quickly took to his X page to address this letter. He said that the Opposition holds a cabinet meeting every Tuesday. However, the Bukomansimbi Woman MP has never attended these meetings because she’s not a member of the shadow cabinet.

The Nakawa West MP further said that another meeting was held yesterday which Nanyondo didn’t attend. He’s therefore surprised to see the woman MP claiming to have signed for a meeting she didn’t attend.

Furthermore, the NUP spokesperson said that “who have signed the censure petition know that the Title on the lists indicates clearly that it’s a motion to censure the Commissioners. So, did the Honourable MP simply sign what she didn’t read?”
