A senior Uganda police officer is under fire for allegedly amassing a property portfolio worth millions of shillings. Sources say the officer is close to completing a lavish six-floor apartment complex in Kyanja, an upscale suburb of Kampala.
The development, situated on an acre of prime real estate, is estimated to be worth a staggering Shs 5 billion. This has raised serious questions, given the officer’s reported monthly salary of Shs 4 million.
Locals know Kyanja for its high property values, with a 50 by 100 plot going for around Shs 300 million – making the officer’s land alone worth Shs 1.2 billion at market rates. This puts him above all senior police officers currently including his boss the IGP.
The officer’s opulent apartment block, complete with high-end finishes, is one of the largest in the area. To put this into perspective, it would take over a century for someone earning the officer’s salary to save up for a project of this scale, even with meticulous saving.
Adding to the controversy, the Uganda Police Officer is also said to be developing another property in Kakiri, Wakiso district, which is nearing completion. The secrecy surrounding both developments has only fuelled speculation about the source of the officer’s wealth.
This comes at a time when the officer is already embroiled in several cases at the Police Disciplinary Court. Public concern is mounting over the potential misuse of power and resources. Despite the controversy, construction on the officer’s properties continues.
More with some speculating that even more real estate investments could be on the horizon, especially with a proposed salary increase for his rank to Shs 6.8 million per month.

However, even with this significant pay bump, the speed at which the officer has accumulated wealth remains questionable.
