A senior 4 student only known as Emmanuel from Karambi SS which is found Kyarumba, Kasese District has committed suicide after he impregnated a girl from the same school. Word has it that this young man became so stressed and depressed thus taking his own life, the shocking act.
The boy unalived himself shortly after he attended the UNEB briefing of S.4 candidates which happened on the 11th of October. According to sources from the area, the girl’s family was planning to sue Emmanuel until his family decided to sell part of their land for 3 million shillings to pay off the girl’s parents demands.
Consequently, 3m was paid to the girl’s family hence settling the case. However, the boy had already messed up and he figured that the only way to bury the disappointment was ending his own life.
The family of this young man and the entire community is still in shock over this incident. As this is the first time it is happening in the community, and local police had already entered into the matter to assertain more details.
Attempts to reach the Kasese Police, the school management and the girl’s family for a statement all proved futile, although we are still trying as hard as we can. This is not the first nor last that such incidents are happening in Uganda.
Some voices from the public have for long been calling upon for a change in laws regarding such issues. Some people feel that the punishments towards the boys are so harsh especially if both the girl and boy are still underage.

Lenient punishments therefore should be devised to avoid such instances. May the deceased’s soul rest in peace.
