Minister Mary Goretti Kitutu to Appear in Court Over 1.5bn Embezzlement Scandal

News getting to our desk indicates that, the Anti-Corruption Court in Kampala has issued a criminal summon various officials including Mary Goretti Kitutu, the Minister of Karamoja Affairs, Geoffrey Sseremba, Deogratius Masagazi, and Tracy Atuhirwe from the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM).

According to our credible sources, charges pressed on them include causing a government financial loss amounting to a whopping 1.5 billion shillings. This left onlookers in complete utter shock, wondering whether the OPM will ever be free from corruption and embezzlement scandals.

The above summoned are set to appear before the court on February 29, 2024, in what is assumed to be a complete courtroom drama as the allegations suggest that Minister Mary Goretti Kitutu, while juggling her responsibilities for Karamoja Affairs between February and June 2022, neglected her activities in the Karamoja sub-region and misused the supplementary funds.

This is said to have taken place under the Director of Public Prosecutions, prosecuting Minister Mary Goretti Kitutu on separate charges. These involve the alleged diversion of the said 14,500 iron sheets, originally intended for the vulnerable population of Karamoja that were distributed amongst top officials including the Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Anita Among.

The Inspector General of Government (IGG) has summoned Karamoja Affairs Minister Mary Goretti Kitutu to appear for questioning over alleged supplementary funds released to the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM). The IGG has ordered the minister to bring any documents” a source disclosed.
