State Minister for Finance, Minister Amos Lugoloobi is facing trial for his alleged involvement in the Karamoja iron sheet scandal. The prosecution has rested its case, and Lugoloobi’s defence is preparing to challenge the charges.
The case against Ugandan Finance State Minister, Amos Lugoloobi, took a turn on Friday as the prosecution concluded its case. Lugoloobi is accused of being involved in the misappropriation of iron sheets intended for the Karamoja region.
The prosecution presented eleven witnesses, with the final witness, Detective Benon Mudabani, stating that no documentation or accountability was found for the 700 iron sheets marked “Office of the Prime Minister”. These sheets were allegedly found at Lugoloobi’s farm.
Lugoloobi’s defence team, spearheaded by John Isabirye, has signalled their intention to file a “no case to answer” submission. The case will resume on October 14, 2024, where Justice Jane Kajuga will hear arguments on whether the case should proceed.
The prosecution alleges that Minister Amos Lugoloobi misused his position to acquire and distribute iron sheets intended for the Karamoja region, violating Section 10(1) of the Anti-Corruption Act.
Their case rests on various pieces of evidence, including documents detailing the terms and conditions of Lugoloobi’s ministerial position, guidelines for iron sheet distribution, and records related to the recovered iron sheets.
The case is yet to take shape as his defense is getting ready. But this case however took a one side direction as we saw other bug fish that was involved in this scandal are walking scot-free on the streets untouched by the law.

They include, the Speaker of Parliament Anita Among, Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, Minister of Finance Matia Kasaija and others.
