The Deputy Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration at Kyambogo University, Dr Lawrence Eron is being hunted by the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and police for aggravated defilement of a 16-year-old girl.
Word has it that, Dr Lawrence Eron was detained at Jinja Road police station and granted bail on October 27. And this gave police time to investigate and come out with a verdict.
After examination by the police doctor, it was found out that the girl was penetrated. It is from that time that, Dr Lawrence Eron was granted bail and he started to sabotage investigations outside custody.
This case happened on October 14, as students from Sir Apollo Kaggwa, Nakisunga, in Mukono District had gone to Nairobi, Kenya alongside Kyambogo University staff. They were on a program funded by Royal Dutch Vision, an organization that supports children with visual impairments in secondary schools in many parts of the country.
So, on the fateful day, when the students returned to Uganda late in the night, the accused university staff was entrusted by the team to drop some of the students to their homes using his vehicle.
And the visually impaired student found out in the morning that she was penetrated. She then reported at school to the administration. The school called her parents who stay in Arua (West Nile).
On October 23, the student with her parents reported the matter to Jinja Road Police Station, and the accused university staff Dr. Lawrence Eron was arrested and detained until October 27 when he was granted police bond. He since then vanished after receiving the Police bond until today.

However, four days later, his file from the Kira state attorney’s office was returned to the police, along with requests for additional inquiries and DNA testing, even though the police medical report had verified penetration happened.
The management of the school furthermore filed an appeal with Mrs. Janet Kataha Museveni, the Minister of Education and Sports after learning that Dr. Lawrence Eron was sabotaging investigations with his connections.
AIGP Tom Magambo Rwabudongo, the director of CID, verified that a team of investigators had been assigned to assist the territorial Police in finishing the investigations as soon as possible. And after they completed their work, the file was forwarded to the DPP, who approved the accusations made against Dr. Eron.
Further findings reveal that, Eron is being accused of abusing both staff and students at the university especially while serving as the dean of Kyambogo’s Faculty of Special Needs and Rehabilitation.
In other words, this has been his way of doing his things with his uncoiling sexual desire that doesn’t allow him to sit down. Kyambogo University, also picked interest in the case as Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Eli Katunguka, on Friday formed a special committee to handle Eron’s matter.
“It was the University Council, which expressed interest as well, that suggested we form a committee to look at the topic. After that, there can be internal administrative disciplinary actions” Prof. Katunguka said.
It should also be known that, aggravated defilement carries a maximum sentence of death upon conviction under the penal code. So, Dr. Lawrence Eron may face a maximum sentence if luck is not on his side.
