This year’s Christmas celebrations may turn out to be the worst for the people of Ibanda and Kamwenge districts. This is all attributed to the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels’ attack that has claimed more than 5 lives in Kamwenge district alone.

According to a letter this website landed on that is from the office of Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Ibanda district, there is a directive that has been issued to all security organs in the district and Municipality. This one was addressed to the public and religious leaders around the same area.

In his directive, the Ibanda RDC Mr. Tukaikiriza Caleb asked all nights clubs, places of worship and other happening places to remain closed temporarily because of the insecurity the neighboring district Kamwenge is in.

He again said that, all security organs must maintain this works without fail. This means that, all bars, night clubs, churches that do over night prayers, shows, must remain closed until the festive season is over.

The District Security Committee is reliably informing the public that all overnight activities such as Night Prayers, Shows, Karaoke, Discos, Night Clubs and others that fall under the above categories have been banned temporarily due to security threats in area and the suspected ADF attack in our neighboring district of Kamwenge where Ibanda District lost 6 lives.” the letter started.

By copy of this, the DISO, CAO, ILC V Chairperson, DPC, OWC coordinators, Mayor, Town Clerk Ibanda Municipality, CO Bihanga Barracks and other members of DSC are required to ensure the ban is maintained through OCs Police Stations and Posts, the GISO, LC III, II, and I Chairpersons, Town Clerks and S/County Chiefs in this festive season. Please comply and make sure security is maintained” the directive read.

That is more of a lockdown in the area because many people go back to villages to go have fun and cause inflation. Now that it is going to be a dull Christmas, we may see many Ibanda and Kamwenge people remain in the city and cause the inflation from Kampala night spots.
