It is now three days into the Mathias Mpuuga scandal of eating Ugx500m from parliament, and it is showing no signs of seizing being a hot topic of the day and making headlines. We have brought you concrete information on how Anita Among, Mpuuga and other two committee members hatched a plan to reward the accused.
According to close insiders in the National Unity Platform (NUP) party, after it was revealed that the Vice President Buganda Region Mathias Mpuuga, a crisis meeting that involved NUP’s top leadership was held including Mpuuga himself and he was asked to reveal what happened.
In the heated up meeting, Mpuuga accepted that it is true he took the money, and informed that it was a token of appreciation from parliament and the Speaker. This did not go well with the leaders especially the president Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert who reminded him of the core values of the party he is part.
A conclusion was reached in presence of Mathias Mpuuga that he resigns, and the next day, we all saw how he went rogue with the party leadership in a statement and informed that he was not resigning from his current position as the Commissioner of Parliament.
This is what really happened
It is being revealed that, on 22nd May 2022, when he was hardly 6 months in office, a committee of three Commissioners sat down in presence of Mpuuga and the Speaker Anita Among and agreed to award him a token to appreciate him for being a Leader of Opposition.
This is when he was given the money and this was out of the law because it was not amended in the laws governing the parliament that maybe it it should be given to every Leader of Opposition, no. This was a personal tip to Mpuuga himself, something that is seen as mode of misusing the tax payers’ money.

On the same manner, this is said to have been one of the reasons why NUP failed to fully demand the political prisoners from the government because Mpuuga was given money and it made him inaudible about the case.
There is still heat in NUP and we are waiting to see how this will go, as corruption scandals keep making NUP leaders grappling and looking for plans to end Mpuuga Mathias. As others say that may be he was set up by parliament into the Ugx500m trap which he of course fell in.
