The president of embattled political party, FDC, Patrick Amuriat Oboi has said that the National Unity Platform looks to be a shady party. In order for the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) and the National Unity Platform (NUP) to collaborate ahead of the 2026 elections, Patrick Amuriat has stated that a deeper understanding of the NUP is necessary.
Patrick Amuriat Oboi stated he would not rule out forming a coalition with the NUP during his Monday morning appearance on NBS Morning Breeze. However, he wants to first learn about the party’s principles.
“We will always love to speak to each other within the ranks of politics. We really want to understand NUP better. We need to understand what they stand for,” Amuriat said.
Additionally, he disclosed that he felt compelled to attend a meeting with NUP officials in order to explore the prospect of creating a coalition and supporting a single candidate before the 2021 presidential elections.
According to him, the meeting happened at the home of FDC deputy president Joyce Sebugwawo in 2019.
“I want to say that we were forced into a meeting with NUP and this meeting took place in December 2019 at Joyce Sebugwawo’s residence,” Patrick Amuriat said.
“The meeting was aimed at fronting a single presidential candidate and our friends from NUP came with a fixed mind that we must front Kyagulanyi and we said no. We took the matter to the national council, and they said no.”

The FDC president further clarified that the party owners, not he, make the choices within the organization regarding cooperation. He also stated that there is only one FDC as this was decided in the delegates meeting last year in October.
