Rumor has been making rounds on social media especially Twitter where it has been alleged that telecom company Lycamobile Uganda had exited the Ugandan market. And the entity has opened up and cleared the air about this widely spreading rumor.

The UK-originating telecommunications company first made its way into the Ugandan telecom market in January 2020. By April of the same year, Lycamobile Uganda had successfully launched commercial services, gaining a reputation for delivering some of the most pocket-friendly data bundles in Uganda.

However, despite its competitive pricing and reliable data offerings, Lycamobile faced backlogs occasionally with users experiencing intermittent outages. These disruptions fuelled speculations about the company to be considering an exit strategy. This has been on for days until over the weekend when the issue intensified.

Thus creating a favorable field for the rumor of their exiting to spark off and it was started by a one X user (formerly Twitter) called Phil. In this X status, he said that Lycamobile had closed and exited Uganda, and for the source he said it was a friend that told him, meaning it was kind of a joke.

In a bold move to squash the rumors, Lycamobile Uganda took it to their social media channels to clear the air. In a long statement, the telecom company assured Ugandans about its stay and how they are doing a network expansion that is causing internet delays.

“OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM LYCA MOBILE UGANDA ON NETWORK OUTAGE

Dear Valued Customers and the General Public, Lyca Mobile Uganda would like to inform its customers about an ongoing network expansion project to improve our services. This project aims to ensure that our services are accessible to every customer even in the remotest corner of our country.

During one such system upgrade, we encountered a slight unexpected downtime of our data services yesterday 3.12.2023, which lasted for less than an hour. The outage affected data services only, while voice, SMS and USSD services remained operational.

The outage was for a short duration and any inconvenience caused to our customers is deeply regretted. Your trust is paramount, and we assure you of measures to prevent any such happening in the future.

We also reassure you that Lyca Mobile is here to stay and grow. We remain committed to providing best value and high-quality services to the people of Uganda. We look forward to helping you with your queries through our Call Centre on 100, +256 726 100 100, or through our other official communication channels.

Lyca Mobile Management.” The statement read.

This has helped to curb down the already estranged users that had started regretting why they joined Lycamobile Uganda and cursing the company for ‘stealing’ their data bundles.
