Accident in Nabweru, Nansana Kills 02 and Leaves Many Injured

Breaking news indicates that, there has been a deadly accident that happened this evening in Nabweru, Nansana Municipality. This has been confirmed by Uganda Police and eyewitnesses who described it as “fatal”.

We are informed that Two people have been confirmed to have died on spot and Eight others were injured in the same crash that happened at Kawaala Junction in Nabweru, Nansana Municipality.

Additionally, this accident involved Motor Vehicle No. UAQ 539E Mitsubishi Fuso & Motorcycles No. UFS 111, UEP 598K & UFU 872P (all Bajaj Boxers) today, 28.1.2024 at 12:40 pm. And it is said that many injuries were reported as others were rushed to the hospital.

According to preliminary reports, the driver of the said motor vehicle while at Kawaala Junction from Kazo, side sloping into the junction, failed to break and rammed into the said motorcycles and pedestrians. That is when 02 people were killed instantly.

They are, one passenger on one of the motorcycles and a rider. Moreso, 08 other people who include pedestrians, riders and passengers on motorcycles were left injured. Thankfully, the injured have been rushed to Mulago for treatment and immediate appropriate medical attention.

Accidents in Uganda left more than 8,000 people dead and more than 10,000 injured in 2023 according to the Uganda Police report on road accidents in the past year. And these are seemingly increasing as years pile on.

Researchers from Makerere University and the Ministry of Health performed a rapid cross-sectional study involving both quantitative and qualitative approaches in 2023. The study found that the causes of road accidents are human error, weather, and the poor state of some roads.
