In a shocking turn of events, a Ugandan pastor accused of defilement escaped police custody after allegedly bribing officers. Pastor Jimmy Masette, 42, of Vision Way of Truth Church, was arrested on September 28 on accusations of defiling and impregnating a 13-year-old girl.
He was being held at Lolwe Police Station in Bukhooli Islands, Namayingo District. Masette reportedly escaped under suspicious circumstances, according to Namayingo deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Suleiman Walugembe.
A security source claims Masette paid officers Shs5 million to orchestrate his escape. “We are told the escapee paid the police Shs5 million to let him off the hook,” the source said. According to the source, the officers escorted Masette to a boat under the cover of darkness.
He then boarded another boat and eventually made his way to Bugiri town. After the escape, the officers allegedly tried to cover up their involvement by damaging the cell to make it seem like Masette had broken out.
“The cut iron sheet has a very small opening where a human head cannot go through; so, we are wondering how the pastor went through such a small outlet,” the source added. This left a loophole in their plan and eventually they ended up sitting in the magma.

Four officers have been arrested in connection with the escape. They deny any wrongdoing and claim that Jimmy Masette escaped on his own. This incident has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting concerns about corruption within the police force. The investigation is ongoing.
