Tensions over the boundaries of the Imaramagambo Forest have been resolved thanks to the effective mediation of the Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa between the National Forestry Authority (NFA) and the people of Mitooma District.

Concerns were raised by the destruction of homes and crops as a result of the fighting, which involved drawing forest boundaries in the Kigyende and Kiyanga sub-counties. “I’m pleased that we’ve resolved the issue, with the National Forestry Authority confirming that their boundaries do not extend onto people’s land,” Tayebwa announced after the agreement was reached.

The Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA), NFA representatives, Mitooma District Speaker Mr. Tumwekwatse Moses, and local stakeholders all of whom were keen to address the concerns of impacted communities met and passed the resolution as a result of the meeting.

Additionally, Thomas Tayebwa gave locals comfort by saying that the matter had been resolved and that “overzealous surveyors” who had crossed Queen Elizabeth National Park’s border had been stopped from working.

Communities who had been experiencing uncertainty and disruption as a result of the boundary misunderstanding have found respite thanks to the Deputy Speaker’s intervention.
