News we are getting indicates that, Police in the Eastern Uganda border district of Busia have arrested a Catholic priest on allegations of defiling and penetrating a 17-year-old primary school leaver who just sat her PLE. This was after he spent four days with her as family thought she was kidnapped.
Information suggests that, Police picked him up from Dabani Parish headquarters, where he is attached. He was detained at Dabani Police Station for a while and then transferred to Busia Central Police Station. And this is where detectives carried out prelate tests on the girl and found out the girl was defiled.
“We are analyzing the suspect’s HIV status, although a Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (pregnancy) test on the girl returned negative results,” a source revealed. Meanwhile, at Busia Police Station, a detective described the priest’s state as being “alcoholic and shivering”.
Additionally, the Busia District Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (CIID) Officer Mr. Tibbs Asiimwe confirmed the priest’s arrest on allegations of defilement but added that this Catholic Priest in Busia had been released on medical grounds after his health deteriorated while in their custody.
“It was difficult to keep him in police cells until today (Monday). We feared (that) he would cause us “problems” and gave him a bond so that he can access treatment, come back this week and we take him to court” he asserted.
We have come to learn that, the priest was drunk when he returned with the victim, and on her parents asking him where their daughter had been, he reportedly harassed and embarrassed them before speeding off.
“Our daughter went missing for four days and when she finally appeared with the Priest, we were suspicious. We asked him where she was for four days, he instead insulted us and rode off” a family member said.

It should be noted that, the Catholic Church doctrine asks that Priests are supposed to practice celibacy and not to engage in acts of sexual intercourse. But these cases of sexual harassment and intercourse are on an increase. Can we assume the priests have lost it?
We are yet to hear from the Catholic church about this news, and see how they will handle this particular issue. But as far as we can guess, such cases have ended when priests lose their statuses and dent away from church after being found guilty.
