Another ADF Attack in Kamwenge

Sad and fresh news coming to our desk indicates that, there has been another Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) attack in Kamwenge district in Western Uganda. This is a second attack in the same month and 3 people were killed.

Clear sources indicate that the three people who were killed last night were of the same family. This act was carried out by suspected ADF militants who raided Nyabitusi village 1, Kamwenge District in Western Uganda’

This comes in just weeks after a similar attack was reported in Kitehurizi village, Kyabandara parish, Kamwenge Sub County, Kamwenge district where 10 people were killed. Including 6 Ibanda district residents.

This attack was confirmed by the Kamwenge Resident District Commissioner, Isiah Byarugaba Kanyamahane who said the victims’ house was set ablaze during the night of Christmas Day.

It’s true three people were killed by ADF rebels and their house was burnt. I am at the scene establishing more facts,” he informed. More about this is that, the victims are an old woman and her two grandchildren.

We had a chance to speak to one of the first responders at the scene of the crime, and he blamed it on the lax nature of the Uganda Police of the area. He added that they reported suspicious people in the area but the security did not take it seriously.

Yesterday on Christmas day, we reported to police after seeing suspicious people in the village. They sent their patrol team but after a few hours, they left and promised to return today (Tuesday) with their canine dogs. But by the time I arrived here, there were no security personnel,” he started.

I wonder whether police took our issue seriously or they decided to do their things. This unfortunate act would not have happened if they spent a night around” he ended his comment.

We think more sensitization is needed in the area and the neighboring areas. We are still ascertaining more facts surrounding this sad story, we shall keep you posted.
