URA states that, in the women’s month, the Entebbe Airport Customs team is focused on combatting the illicit importation of phones from various destinations worldwide by travelers. Nothing could have prepared them for the tactical prowess displayed by the smugglers.

It all stared when the Customs team at the airport saw a man that was putting on like Muslims and were curious to check him, and to their surprise, he had 36 phones with him. He was not the only one, the operation continued until more than 300 phones were recovered from smugglers.

Cometh the moment, cometh the man with a peculiar fashion accessory. A cosset. The team was curious and a quick check revealed that this was not simply a fashion choice but a careful ploy to smuggle phones. The team recovered from him 36 pieces of the latest models that Apple and Samsung have to offer.” URA stated. And another man with ‘huge’ calf muscles and he was apprehended too.

“Another man came to the airport with calf muscles that ‘stood out’ so much that even the most accomplished Mr Olympia’s face would turn red with envy. The officer’s attention was drawn. From the smuggler’s ‘super ntumbwe’ came 39 pieces of assorted mobile phones.” Uganda Revenue Authority continued to reveal.

In the statement, the taxing body revealed that some phones are smuggled in Play Station boxes, automotive spare parts and others.

We beseech travelers to always beware of people who offer them a few dollars to help them get through customs at the airport. When a mule is nabbed, the beneficial owner is typically nowhere to be seen. Your guess is as good as ours about who then gets to dance to the tunes of justice”
