It is all happiness and smiles as Uganda may not have taken home the crown, but Alison Mary Akello, clinched the Miss Popularity title at the Miss Tourism Africa contest.
The Miss Tourism Africa contest just wrapped up in Lagos, Nigeria, and while Namibia ultimately snagged the crown, Uganda definitely left its mark. Alison Mary Akello, representing Uganda, won over fans and earned the Miss Popularity award, raking in a whopping 465 online votes.
Also, looking at the crown she came back home with, Miss Popularity isn’t just about being well, popular. It’s about hustle! This title is awarded based on how contestants perform during the pre-finale Bootcamp think social media engagement and really connecting with fans.
And Alison Mary Akello definitely brought her A-game, rallying Ugandans and fans worldwide to vote. This was done through all her social media platforms and various WhatsApp groups were created to push her fans to vote and make her win the Miss Tourism Africa crown.
The main event, held at the Landmark Centre in Lagos, saw contestants from across Africa strutting their stuff to showcase the continent’s beauty and tourism potential. Namibia’s Ndinelago ‘Ndina’ Emosho, a 27-year-old model, took home the crown and a cool £2,000.
