Allegations of impropriety have been levied against Tian Tang Group, the company that manages the Sino-Uganda Mbale Industrial Park. The company has issued a statement denying any wrongdoing and claiming their chairman is the victim of a smear campaign.

September 21, 2024, Kampala, Uganda: Tian Tang Group, a leading industrial hub operating within the Republic of Uganda, has issued a statement in response to recent allegations regarding a business partnership.

The Group, established under the framework of China-Uganda cooperation, asserts its commitment to transparency and ethical conduct. The dispute stems from a joint venture agreement between Tian Tang Group’s chairman and two individuals, Mr Liu Qingshan and Mr Yan Sheng.

Under the terms of the 2019 agreement, a company called Automobile Group (U) Limited was formed to assemble automobiles. Tian Tang Group claims that, contrary to allegations, their chairman contributed more than just land to the venture.

They allege that Mr. Liu Qingshan subsequently established competing businesses, Watu Auto Works (U) Ltd and NEC-WATU AUTOMOBILE (U) Ltd, in violation of their agreement. Tian Tang Group alleges that Mr. Liu used the jointly owned premises for his own companies, excluding the other partners and refusing to provide accountability for the investments.

Furthermore, accuses Mr. Liu of forging the chairman’s signature to manipulate shareholdings. Attempts to mediate the dispute, led by the Head of State House Investors Protection Unit, Col. Edith Nakalema, have reportedly been unsuccessful due to Mr. Liu’s non-cooperation.
