Early Friday morning, a fatal collision on the Lira-Soroti highway claimed the life of Dr. Jasper Abura, the Principal Education Officer for Lira City. This tragedy comes just months after the city mourned the loss of its Town Clerk in a similar incident.
Lira city mourning multiple tragic losses in a short time period is another sign of agony, prompting residents to pour their outcry. Dr. Abura was traveling in a saloon car that collided with a truck at approximately 1am in Adwila Village, Amac Sub-county.
He tragically died at the scene. Two other passengers, Lira City West Division Town Clerk Emmanuel Komakech and the driver, Jacob Okello, were seriously injured. They are currently receiving medical treatment at Lira Regional Referral Hospital.
Police are investigating the cause of the crash. North Kyoga Region Police Spokesperson Patrick Jimmy Okema confirmed that authorities are working to locate and impound the truck involved and apprehend the driver.
This incident is a painful reminder of a similar tragedy that shook Lira City just four months ago. In May, then-City Town Clerk Theopilus Tibihika lost his life in a road accident along the Lira-Apac Road.
