News on our desk indicates how Kawempe North MP, Hon Muhammad Ssegirinya is on the right path to recovery. Although, the Member of Parliament is hospitalized at the Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya for over three months.
Apparently, Hon Ssegirinya Muhammad was taken to Aga Khan on the 23rd of December 2023 in a very critical condition. He suffers from various vital organ complications and he previously received treatment from the Netherlands.
By the time he was taken to Kenya, the MP was on probability between life and death. However, his personal assistant, Alex Luwemba told a court hearing at the International Crimes Division of the High Court that his boss is recuperating well.
As of now, he can eat, talk and also recognize different people according to his lawyer. This wasn’t the case previously. However, he still needs more prayers and medical attention to make a full recovery.
The Member of Parliament is currently facing terrorism charges alongside Makindye West MP, Hon Allan Ssewanyana. They are being charged with four others namely; Jackson Kanyike, John Mugerwa, Bull Wamala, and Mike Sserwadda. The six are accused of being the masterminds behind the Masaka killings in 2021.
Geoffrey Turyamusiima, a lawyer of Mike Sserwada one of the accused had filed a petition to dismiss the charges against his client. This was on grounds of torture. It was here that Ssegirinya’s PA provided a medical update. But with the absence of Judge Alice Komuhangi Khauka, the petition was postponed.
Meanwhile, for Muhammad Ssegirinya and Ssewanyana they face another trial of murder at the Masaka High Court besides these terror charges. They however petitioned the constitutional court to dismiss the charges as per a local daily.

“In February 2023, they petitioned the Constitutional Court, alleging abuse of court process and political persecution due to their separate trials in different courts. They seek dismissal of the charges against them, citing inconsistencies and contraventions of the Constitution by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).”
The two MPs have maintained their innocence in these killings citing political persecution. For Ssegirinya, it’s waiting to see when he will recover fully.
