Gospel singer Exodus Uganda has cried live on television as he talked about his mental health

Gospel singer, Exodus broke down on UBC TV’s Horizon Vibe as he narrated his mental breakdown challenges. He revealed how a couple of years ago he went into a mental breakdown and according to him, he used to look after over 75 children who were not his.

However, a sequence of unfortunate things started falling his way. He decided to take a step back from the limelight singing. Reaching out to the church elders, they didn’t help him at all apart from criticizing him.

Only thing he got was backlash and this made matters worse. These told him how he’s no longer a church member but rather a bar frequenter. The Igwe singer felt alone and abandoned. At this point, he contemplated su!cide.

Exodus revealed that on 23rd December 2018, he drove to Guvnor and drank himself silly. He wanted to end his life in a motor accident. However, he ended up crashing into someone’s car alongside Kabira Country Club. The next thing he knew when he woke up was being in handcuffs.

Things really got tough for me and I underwent a tough depression period. I broke down mentally and I had to step away from the limelight. I remember this one specific day on 23rd December 2018. I went to Guvnor and drowned myself in alcohol.” He started narrating his ordeal.

“I had decided to end my life in an accident because I had already got suicidal thoughts. However, I crashed into 6 poles and smashed someone’s Range Rover along Kabira Country Club. The next thing I knew when I woke up was handcuffs on me. Despite, reaching out to the church elders for help, all I got was backlash and judgement,” the singer said as he sobbed.

It should be also noted that, the singer rose to the scene over a decade ago with a couple of gospel songs. He was under Pastor Robert Kayanja’s Miracle Centre Cathedral in Rubaga which he deserted later on after fame hit his head.

In fact, the Church’s founder got him off the streets and he was rehabilitated. However, his personal lifestyle especially his dreads and music style always rubbed some people wrong who argued that this is not godly music.

All this coupled with his last struggles with addiction made him relapse. However, he revealed that he’s now on the path to recovery.
