There is a video that has since gone viral on social media. In it, a Ugandan civilian is seen being beaten badly while hands are bundled with ropes by in uniform Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) officers.
This video recorded from Lagot, Kitgum has caused an uproar and the public to start demanding for the immediate arrest and trial of the indiscipline officers in uniform.
Fresh news updates coming on our desk indicate that, the unidentified civilian that was being flogged in the video with huge logs is being admitted in the hospital. This confirmation was made by a one social media user who helped to translate the language being used in the video. The same user, said that the victim sustained severe injuries.
What makes this so hurting is that, they were beating the wrong person with a wrong identity. This is confirmed in the victim’s pleas in the video while being beaten, he was telling the defiant UPDF officers that he is not the one they were looking for.
In addition, he asked the officers to take him for identification that is when they will discover they were beating him innocently. That was in his bid to be set free, he tried to tell them something they were not ready to hear from him.
Worse of it all, the order was made by a one Afande Odong Button and GISO Okuri. These are the top officers that are meant to make orders of protecting civilians, they are the ones that have instead ordered the flogging of the same citizens.

What was the reason why he was being flogged?
We have not yet established the real reason why this man was being beaten up by these UPDF officers. But what we know of now, is that they had orders to beat him until he confessed what they wanted from him.
We are yet to hear from the UPDF spokesperson about this issue in an official statement. But still, the civilian needs justice and then, why would people meant to protect civilians, be the same people that are killing them?
