Another grim discovery on the Northern Bypass has sparked fresh concerns about jogger safety in Kampala. Agnes Nantongo, a manager at African Oil Petrol Station, was found dead near Agenda Bridge on September 30th.
Sadly, this isn’t an isolated incident. This case, marked by a suspected blunt force attack, describes a disturbing pattern of violence against joggers in the city. Remember the tragic death of Kamwokya LCIII chairperson, also killed by a blunt object while running?
This latest tragedy feels eerily similar. And it’s not just the fatal attacks; remember the woman assaulted in Namugongo in 2022? It’s enough to make anyone think twice before lacing up their running shoes.
Even high-profile figures like Bishop Zac Niringiye haven’t been spared, recently attacked and robbed while jogging. The late tycoon Kasiwukila was killed by a speeding vehicle as he jogged near his home in Muyenga at around 6:00am in October, 2014.
This also Agnes Nantongo murder adds concerns about safety of joggers in Kampala. This is now becoming a silent way of killing people and police hardly comes out with full reports, nor does it put culprits into book.

While police are investigating, they’re asking for the public’s help anyone with information is urged to contact Kireka police station. Let’s hope they can find some answers and, more importantly, some solutions to make Kampala’s streets safer for everyone.
