Territorial police in Kampala Metropolitan South have arrested Kirumira Abdul for vandalizing CCTV cameras at Kabojja I Kyengera. This was after this vice has been going on without arresting those involved in it.
“The territorial police in KMP South and Nsangi have in custody, a one Kirumira Abdul of Kabojja “A” zone, Kasenge ward in Kyengera town council, on allegations of vandalism of the police CCTV camera, at Kabojja I Kyengera on the 24.01.2024, at around 6 p.m.” part of the statement goes.
However, police has informed that, Kirumira Abdul was showing signs of mental illness and going to be taken to Butabika Hospital for examination. And said that, the damaged CCTV camera has been repaired and will see this being paid by the suspect.
“We continue to treat criminal activity with CCTV cameras seriously. The damaged CCTV camera has been repaired, the area being a hotspot and part of the community safety network. Investigations continue to establish whether the act was a targeted mischief” the police statement read.
In the same statement, the police advised that the public should be vigilant about keeping the CCTV cameras safe and operational because they are for safety purposes. They reduce public crime and monitoring of traffic flow.

“We wish to remind the public that CCTV cameras are a vital tool for public safety which include; preventing crime, detecting offences, improving response to emergencies, assisting in the management of places, reducing public fear of crime, monitoring traffic flow, police deployments and patrols. It is therefore, a widely used tool in policing” the statement ended.
